Jonathan Miller has been appointed the new chair of the Board of Deputies’ inspection service, Pikuach, taking over from Joan Jacobs.
Jonathan spent more than 30 years as a teacher at JFS, the last eight as headteacher. He will be overseeing the strategy and development of Pikuach, the statutory equivalent of Ofsted for Jewish religious education, and working alongside director Jeffrey Leader.
Following his appointment Jonathan said: “I am honoured to have this opportunity of contributing to the significant work Pikuach undertakes in ensuring that standards of Jewish education are maintained and developed further in the community’s excellent Jewish schools.”
Board of Deputies Chief Executive Gillian Merron said: “We are delighted that Jonathan has agreed to become the new Chair of Pikuach. He brings a wealth of experience to the post. He is and has been for some time a valued member of the Pikuach Advisory Group and as Chair will help to further strengthen our development of a quality inspection service that not only judges schools but also supports them in their efforts to improve their Jewish Studies provision.”
Pikuach Director Jeffrey Leader said: “I would, at this time, like to pay tribute to Joan Jacobs, the outgoing Chair who gave so much of her time, energy and experience to Pikuach. Joan helped to oversee the publication of the new Pikuach Inspection Framework and for me, personally, was always someone I could turn to for advice and support.”
